This session is from last fall, but I just got so far behind on my posts and I still wanted to showcase this lovely senior because she is so photogenic!
Anne’s senior portrait session was the one that included both indoor studio portraits and outdoor, on-location portraits as well.
I love these sessions because I can really customize the backdrops to fit the outfit… and also find the locations with perfect lighting! Anything can look good if the lighting is right!!! (Just my $0.02 for you)
After the fun indoor shots showcasing her unique activities like playing the tuba in her high school band, and drama with the Stebens Children’s Theatre we were ready to head out for some cool outdoor images.
Anne had couple fun hats she wanted to wear with some of her outfits, so for the furry mad-bomber hat, I decided the railroad tracks would be perfect. I know, I know some people think the RR track pictures are overdone, but I’m with her and her mom on this one. The image is just so symbolic of young adulthood, and this being just the beginning of their life journey.
Call me a hopeless romantic.
Oh, and the ones in her prom dress by the water… those remind me of some kind of fairy tale… like The Princess and the Frog or The Swan Princess. I just love it!
Anyhow, that’s enough out of me for today!
Well, I had a very fun and very busy day when I drove down to Osage, Iowa to meet with Kendra and her mom for a morning of on-location portraits in their hometown. I photographed Kendra’s older brother, Kolby a few years back and so they were all very excited to create some amazing images for this beautiful young lady.
I’m always honored when my customers return to me. And I’ve done lots of returning families with younger siblings becoming Seniors this year, which makes me VERY HAPPY! I know just how many other photographers there are out there these days, creating facebook pages and trying to lure my customers away with lower prices or fancy photo treatments. I know I’m doing something right when people tell me they want MY EXPERIENCE, MY TALENT… I love that they enjoy the simplicity of my images and the natural expressions I am able to coax out of their loved ones.
I can’t imagine trying to do anything else. This is who I am, this is my style and my brand. I dabble in the props and cutesy stuff a little bit with newborns, but I just can’t help myself… what else are you going to do with a sleeping baby??? LOL!
But back to Kendra, and her images…
We did some at her grandparent’s place where they have this fantastic gazebo built into the bluffs overlooking the river below… such a magical location!
Then we went down to the river itself, and around town… finding sources of inspiration everywhere we looked!
We also took some with her (very tame and docile) award winning heifer… it’s almost like it’s a girl relaxing by the tree with her horse! A beautiful creature indeed!
After the morning festivities, we gathered up her immediate family for a little session at their home farm.
But, we still weren’t done!!! Once we finished that, we drove over to Kendra’s grandparent’s farm to photograph the whole Berg clan!
Look at these cute little cousins she has! They are just too cute!
All in all, it was a jam-packed day and I was darn happy to set my heavy camera down at the end… but it was definitely worth it when I saw all these great memories we created together.
Hi there! I’m just trying to play catch up today! I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed lately and trying to keep on top of things… shoots, proofing, ordering, packaging, phone calls, emails, facebook, blog… it all adds up!
Luckily, I made a great choice this year, sending Collin to a daycare in Northwood so I wouldn’t have to run him to daycare after pre-school which has been a total life-saver! (Especially since he goes 3x week now, not just two.)
I told myself I was going to start hitting the treadmill again now that I have to run into town, but my workload hasn’t allowed it quite yet. I have high hopes for next week though! My butt will be fat soon if it doesn’t get out of this office chair! … although I do tell myself I have been doing lots of sessions and house work in my off time (staining and painting) so I have kept pretty active. But it’s not a good replacement for some good, hard cardio… they say it helps you work (focus) better too.
Ahhh… enough about my life. On to more fun things!
Miss Alli here was all sorts of fun, with her mom, Kris at her senior photo session. I had a great time seeing all her cute outfits.
She has the BEST smile! All teeth! No holding back! I didn’t pick many serious looks for her proofs because that just wasn’t her style. Although I’m sure a bunch of her friends will love them.
Alli here is a huntress like me… so I was pumped when she said she brought along her shotgun. She is a young Tiffany Lakosky!
It was also interesting to find out she’s a tough cookie too! She’s pitched SIX, that’s right, I said SIX, no run games! What a woman!!!
Well, back to the not-so-fun parts of my job!
Yup, I’m back! With another beautiful senior girl to share. I just loved working with Ashley and her mom.
They also brought along Ashley’s doggie, Morkie… isn’t he the cutest???
And her sister came along for a few sibling shots. They are both so gorgeous! I love the funny expressions, myself!
It’s always hard to narrow down the images when you have so many good ones, but I’m always able to get it down to about 6 or 7 of each outfit usually. Then, the family gets the hard choice of picking from the best of the best for their reprint order.
It’s a rough job, but somebody’s gotta do it. 😉 *wink!*
I’ve gotta say, I was a little overwhelmed when I saw the van full of clothing and instruments Ashley arrived with on the day of her senior session.
She had her mom and boyfriend in tow to help unload it all and we rolled up our sleeves and got right to work! Or fun, I should say!
I was glad I have accumulated so many backgrounds over the years because I needed quite a few for the thirteen, yes, I said THIRTEEN outfits! 🙂
I guess it’s unlimited, after all! LOL!
I can’t say that I regret offering an unlimited session, because it’s girls like Ashley that are really invested in making their senior portraits special that drive me into that creative zone.
I just love playing around with portraits of guitarists. Ashley had some beautiful guitars and I love the studio shots we created, but the country girl in me adores this one with her acoustic guitar out in the flowers.
Funny story with these shots… Ashley is wearing a butterfly necklace, butterfly earrings, and a butterfly ring… and you wouldn’t guess, but a tiny lavender butterfly landed on her finger while we were shooting this. It didn’t want to leave either. It landed on her guitar strings and everything! Pretty awesome senior portrait experience if I do say so myself! 🙂
Check out all the awesome pictures in the slideshow! There’s more musical ones… the banjo with the speeding train is another one of my absolute faves… and the ones of her on point in her ballet shoes are rockin’ too!
Such a talented and beautiful girl!
